Aborigines on Australia Day, Papua New Guinea, and El Comandante Fidel Castro

Rabu, 22 Februari 2012

Australia day, January 26 is to Australians what Fourth of July is to U.S citizens. It is a wild celebration of the nation’s short history, based on the genocide of the aboriginal inhabitants, “Christianizing” the survivors, stealing all their land, and creating a white country, but in the Australian case, white was made out of white prisoners from England, where people were “shipped out” for major criminal offenses such as stealing a loaf of bread to feed their family. Certainly, there were some petty criminals amongst all those who were forcefully resettled, never to see their families again, common thieves, forgers, atheists, and the likes, with an occasional hardened criminal thrown in to keep the lower ranks in check with violence. They were the preferred sort to take the horrible trip, which can only be equated to the slave ships that went to the Americas from Africa.  The more serious criminals ended up on the gallows in short order.Once they arrived in Australia, some worked for their freedom while others died as prisoners, in the stone houses they were forced to build. Many of the buildings stand today as museums to Australia’s shameful original settlement.Others arrived on the austral continent lured by all the free land and cheap labor, stealing the entire continent from its inhabitants by declaring it to be English and composing a farcical constitution in the late 19th century, written of course by the white male property owners just like in the USA.So this year for (White) Australia day, there came to be a little incident, where Madame Prime Minister Julia Gillard had to be rescued from a mob of the original inhabitants of the continent by about 50 police officers. In the process, she lost a shoe and was badly shaken up. When the melee broke out, she was handing out medals to emergency services workers at a restaurant. The incident serves as a reminder during the boom years of Australia, as well as New Zealand, that there are still a few million people in the two nations who were robbed of their spiritual connections to the land along with their destiny. Those of us who have witnessed first-hand the utter hopelessness of the Australian Original Inhabitants, drowning in alcohol, violence, and poverty, cannot help but wonder what kind of a God wrought this on his people. This perpetually troubled crime riddled nation, a subsidiary of Australia Inc. has suffered everything from cannibalism to Australian Imperialism. On Australia Day, Jan 26, rebel commander Yaura Sasa issued a press statement to the effect that he has seized control of the PNG military. The issue at hand is who should be the legitimate Prime Minister of this backwater nation, which, to its great misfortune, is very rich in minerals, making it a valuable target to foment dissent by multinational corporations wanting to position themselves to better their exploitative endeavors, from open pit mining to rampant deforestation. Just the mere fact that a nation such as PNG has a sizeable military force, supplied by the usual suspects, is a crime against humanity. Instead of education and healthcare, the developed world is sending miners and missionaries. The wisdom of that escapes me at the moment!Cuba’s Comandante Fidel CastroIn spite of his 85 years, the aging former leader of the sugarcane nation of Cuba manages to come up with some wit and wisdom on occasion. With the two leading Republican candidates sucking up to an eager Florida Cuban exile community, both Romney and Gingrich made political overtures to those who have not yet gotten over the fact that the Mafia is not running Cuba anymore for the U.S.Newt Gangrene has openly called for covert action against Cuba to bring about a “Cuban Spring,” while Mitt Romney came in a little milder with his “…we want to stand with the people of Cuba that want freedom. We want to move that effort forward by not giving in and saying we lost, but by saying we will fight for democracy.”Maybe they both should start the fight for democracy in the U.S., where Republican states, one after another, are passing laws to “prevent voter fraud” supposedly perpetrated by indigent and poor citizens of color, while the wholesale election fraud happens all over the country with electronic voting machines.Castro’s statement today reflects the feeling of many U.S. citizens: “The selection of Republican candidates for the presidency of this globalized and expansive empire is –and I really mean this seriously – the greatest competition of idiocy and ignorance that has ever been!”Thank you so much for putting it so eloquently Mr. Castro. I am afraid my version would not be suitable for publication.Where my Dear Neighbor “Lalo” Makes Some Very Fine Malbec Wine!I encourage you to write to me, jamie@expatdailynews.com with any questions or suggestions you may have. Australia and New Zealand as Friendly Place for Expats

By Jamie Douglas
First off, I apologize for this brief post today. I have been suffering from severe Internet constipation all day. My normally speedy dongles have let me down, offering up some of the strangest error messages. There is no time to be wasted, so let me get on with the subject to be discussed today. The twin Austral nations of Australia and New Zealand consistently be at the top of the lists of the best places to live, the friendliest places, and the greatest places on earth to be an expat! That is true, if you already are an expat there, because if not, migrating to either of these countries as a retiring and even well off individual is not easy at all. Both of these lovely nations have a sizeable trans-Tasman migratory population, ready to go east or west to take advantage of economic opportunities. We are talking about young, hard workers who are years away from retirement and able to offer their services to their chosen economy for years while raising families, paying taxes, and contributing to the greater good. When applying for residency while you are in your 60’s and self sustaining, you must have a better reason than “because I like it” when asked why they should grant you an immigrant visa. In fact, I really can’t think of any good reasons why baby boomers would get any type of preference, although it was their parents who fought the Japanese in WWII so that the youth of ANZ could forget all about history and enjoy their 2012 lifestyle. In my extensive travels in the region, I was never verbally or physically assaulted for being a “Yank,” (I am Swiss born and raised). I had nothing but great experiences down under and fairly recently had one of the adventures of my lifetime, crossing the Australian continent from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean by means of the Indian-Pacific train. Wherever I went, the people were as friendly as could be and treated me like best of friends after brief meetings. That said, one must face the facts that both nations have very substantial tax rates, border on socialism, are very big brotherly with their police forces, and have strict gun laws. And the cost of living in either nation is substantially higher than one would expect. But then on the other hand, New Zealand offers spectacular beauty, from its gorgeous northern beaches to the Southern Alps, with their stunning glaciers that, disturbingly, are melting at a record pace. Most unfortunately, my favorite city in this nation, Christchurch, has been inundated with a swarm of earthquakes, giving all the inhabitants the jitters. Every time they think that a sufficient time has passed between aftershocks, there comes a new batch. That is very unnerving indeed.Australia is considered to be the original leftover building block of the aboriginal earth, Pangaea and later Gondwanaland, and as such has settled down quite a bit, in spite of its proximity to the infamous ring of fire. The entire continent is surrounded by water, much of it in the form of lovely beaches, while the interior is virtually uninhabitable due to lack of water and excessive temperatures. The time for migrating to Australia was primarily in the 1950’s, when large numbers of citizens of the UK and Southern Europe moved to the promised land to do all the hard physical labor that was necessary to build a nation. That time is now mostly passed. They are still looking for miners and hard working physical laborers, but the country has grown up. If you think that because you are a whiz kid IT pro, think again. They have top level engineers, programmers and technicians because they did not have someone like Ronald Reagan and Howard Jarvis dismantle the world’s greatest educational system. There, I made it! Over 600 words, without a single crash. That sets a record for the day.In the other Austral part of the World.[image: beach near Esperance, south coast of Western Australia]I encourage you to write to me, jamie@expatdailynews.com with any questions or suggestions you may have, and if necessary, we can establish a voice communication via Skype.
