Aborigines on Australia Day, Papua New Guinea, and El Comandante Fidel Castro

Australia day, January 26 is to Australians what Fourth of July is to U.S citizens. It is a wild celebration of the nation’s short history, based on the genocide of the aboriginal inhabitants, “Christianizing” the survivors, stealing all their land, and creating a white country, but in the Australian case, white was made out of white prisoners from England, where people were “shipped out” for major criminal offenses such as stealing a loaf of bread to feed their family. Certainly, there were some petty criminals amongst all those who were forcefully resettled, never to see their families again, common thieves, forgers, atheists, and the likes, with an occasional hardened criminal thrown in to keep the lower ranks in check with violence. They were the preferred sort to take the horrible trip, which can only be equated to the slave ships that went to the Americas from Africa.  The more serious criminals ended up on the gallows in short order.Once they arrived in Australia, some worked for their freedom while others died as prisoners, in the stone houses they were forced to build. Many of the buildings stand today as museums to Australia’s shameful original settlement.Others arrived on the austral continent lured by all the free land and cheap labor, stealing the entire continent from its inhabitants by declaring it to be English and composing a farcical constitution in the late 19th century, written of course by the white male property owners just like in the USA.So this year for (White) Australia day, there came to be a little incident, where Madame Prime Minister Julia Gillard had to be rescued from a mob of the original inhabitants of the continent by about 50 police officers. In the process, she lost a shoe and was badly shaken up. When the melee broke out, she was handing out medals to emergency services workers at a restaurant. The incident serves as a reminder during the boom years of Australia, as well as New Zealand, that there are still a few million people in the two nations who were robbed of their spiritual connections to the land along with their destiny. Those of us who have witnessed first-hand the utter hopelessness of the Australian Original Inhabitants, drowning in alcohol, violence, and poverty, cannot help but wonder what kind of a God wrought this on his people. This perpetually troubled crime riddled nation, a subsidiary of Australia Inc. has suffered everything from cannibalism to Australian Imperialism. On Australia Day, Jan 26, rebel commander Yaura Sasa issued a press statement to the effect that he has seized control of the PNG military. The issue at hand is who should be the legitimate Prime Minister of this backwater nation, which, to its great misfortune, is very rich in minerals, making it a valuable target to foment dissent by multinational corporations wanting to position themselves to better their exploitative endeavors, from open pit mining to rampant deforestation. Just the mere fact that a nation such as PNG has a sizeable military force, supplied by the usual suspects, is a crime against humanity. Instead of education and healthcare, the developed world is sending miners and missionaries. The wisdom of that escapes me at the moment!Cuba’s Comandante Fidel CastroIn spite of his 85 years, the aging former leader of the sugarcane nation of Cuba manages to come up with some wit and wisdom on occasion. With the two leading Republican candidates sucking up to an eager Florida Cuban exile community, both Romney and Gingrich made political overtures to those who have not yet gotten over the fact that the Mafia is not running Cuba anymore for the U.S.Newt Gangrene has openly called for covert action against Cuba to bring about a “Cuban Spring,” while Mitt Romney came in a little milder with his “…we want to stand with the people of Cuba that want freedom. We want to move that effort forward by not giving in and saying we lost, but by saying we will fight for democracy.”Maybe they both should start the fight for democracy in the U.S., where Republican states, one after another, are passing laws to “prevent voter fraud” supposedly perpetrated by indigent and poor citizens of color, while the wholesale election fraud happens all over the country with electronic voting machines.Castro’s statement today reflects the feeling of many U.S. citizens: “The selection of Republican candidates for the presidency of this globalized and expansive empire is –and I really mean this seriously – the greatest competition of idiocy and ignorance that has ever been!”Thank you so much for putting it so eloquently Mr. Castro.
