Australian Open 2012, day 7: Feliciano Lopez and Rafael Nadal Downs in straight sets

Rafael Nadal advanced to the quarterfinals on 2012, the Australian Open on Sunday, beat Feliciano Lopez in straight sets. Nadal played with a heavily twisted left ankle and right knee, but it seemed that no trouble against 18 took the Spaniard won 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

Lopez served 10 aces on the night, 124.4 MPH average on his first serve compared to 108.8 only for Nadal. It is no surprise that Nadal was much more technically advanced in the course of the game. Lopez had 50 unforced errors by means of three sets, compared to just 13 for Nadal. Lopez also hurt himself with six double faults in the night.

Nadal will face the winner between number 7 Thomas Berdych and number 10 Nicolas Almagro later in the day. A Win there and he will potentially face Roger Federer in the semi-finals, depending on how the Swiss legend tariffs against Australian title hopeful Bernard Tomic.
